Part of Creative Matters, a program of the Office of the Vice President for Research, presented in collaboration with the University of Iowa School of Music with support from the Larry G. and Ann Howard Jones Vocal Ensemble Residency ProgramA stirring work by a UI alum—sung by a peerless choir—asks what the words we speak in prayer say about us.
The Crossing, an acclaimed 18-voice choir, will be in residence at the University of Iowa School of Music for a week with UI alumnae Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang and soprano and new work champion Anika Kildegaard. The Crossing and the UI choir Kantorei will perform together at the top of concert and music director Donald Nally will lead The Crossing in performance of Lang’s poor hymnal. Lang’s composition is a new work of original hymns intended to be sung by an imagined congregation whose sole spiritual goal is the aid of others in need.
