About this Event
STATEMENT
"The Criterion of Embarrassment" marks Seydell's inaugural solo exhibition at SATELLITE. In this striking collection, the artist distills the essence of pop culture icons through the lens of Catholic imagery from his youth, transforming them into a compressed reflection of the hidden complexities of daily life. Scratch-graffitied mirrors are adorned with the visual detritus of dive bars, featuring bold homoerotic interpretations of martyrdom and Church-sanctioned suffering. At the back of the space, a trio of public urinals serves as a provocative reminder of the consumption intrinsic to this gritty everyday reality.
