Bringing creatives and neighbors together for conversation, culture, and the power of owning our narratives.
About this Event

In collaboration with MI Students Dream, 482 Forward, and Made in Banglatown, we’re bringing creatives and neighbors together for an evening rooted in conversation, culture, and the power of owning our narratives.

The first half of the program, hosted by The Creative Union, explores the role of media in shaping civic awareness, cultural identity, and economic opportunity. Through talks and guided conversation, we’ll examine why media access matters, who gets to tell the story, and how creatives can influence both public perception and public policy. Because storytelling isn’t just creative work — it’s power.

Throughout the evening, there will be space to connect and build. Expect intentional networking, vendors to shop with, and interactive activations designed to spark dialogue, collaboration, and creativity.

Following the program, we’ll gather to break iftar together — the evening meal that marks the end of the daily fast during Ramadan. Iftar is traditionally a communal moment of nourishment, reflection, and connection, and all are welcome to participate regardless of faith or familiarity.

After iftar, we’ll transition into a community dialogue centered on Detroit Public Schools, focusing on equity, access, and accountability. Together, we’ll reflect on lived experiences, policy implications, and pathways for collective action that support students, families, and the broader community.

This space is for:
→ storytellers
→ educators
→ youth & families
→ policy + civic leaders
→ creatives + cultural workers
→ community advocates

Because the narratives we center determine the futures we build — and everyone deserves a voice in that process.
