About The Instructor

Dr. Travis Yates retired from the Tulsa (OK) Police Department after 30 years of service. He spent 25 years as a supervisor and manager with the last decade as a major / commander. His assignments included patrol, gang investigations, training, technology, policy, media relations, J*il operations and special operations that included SWAT, Helicopter, K-9, Dive Team, Bomb Squad, Disaster Response, Special Events, and the Reserve Program.

Travis is an advanced certified instructor, a recipient of the ILEETA International Law Enforcement Trainer of the Year and the co-founder of the Below 100 Initiative. Over the last two decades his seminars on risk management and leadership have been given to thousands of law enforcement professionals across the globe including 46 states.

Travis is one of the most prolific authors in the industry, authoring hundreds of articles including the best-selling book, “The Courageous Police Leader.” He is the Editor Emeritus at Law Officer Magazine and CEO of Stoic Enterprises that provides training and consulting to public safety across the country.

Travis has a Doctorate Degree in Strategic Leadership. His dissertation focused on how communication affects organizational performance or law enforcement agencies. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the 227th session of the FBI National Academy. Travis has taught university level courses to thousands of students over the last twenty-five years and is currently employed with Florida State University. He is a sought-after court expert in various areas including patrol, policy, pursuits, and tactics and has testified for plaintiffs and defendants across the country.
