Q: What is the Corellian Caper?A: This event is an immersive theater event in Batuu East (Hollywood Studios) with a unique, Star Wars smuggler-themed storyline. People will work in teams to return an important artifact to the planet of Ryloth by solving puzzles and interacting with live "actors" stationed around Galaxy's Edge (members of the game design team in character/bounding). It's a LARP (live action roleplay), mixed with technology such as a custom story app. This app will be completely unique to this game and will tie into the live gameplay.
If people enjoyed the combination of live character interaction and the use of the datapad on Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser to tell a story, they'll have fun with this - it’s a very similar feel.
Q: When is this event?
A: January 16th, 2025. It’ll take place between 10 AM-6 PM, and your team’s start time will be assigned within that time span.
Q: How long is this event?
A: The game is designed to be a 75-90 minute experience for your group.
Q: How many people in a group?
A: There is a max of 12-13 players to a group (not counting non-players in a group such as small younglings). Small groups more easily comply with park rules and make the gameplay experience more personalized for participants. There will be a total cap on the number of overall players at 45-50 people to accommodate for this.
Q: Will there be a meet-up portion of this event?
Yes. There will be an informal meet-up in Batuu open to both players and the general Starcruiser/Star Wars community after the final game of the afternoon on January 16th, 2025. This will be a great opportunity for folks to mingle amongst themselves, chat about their experiences, and meet the game design team in a relaxed setting.
We’ll be meeting by the TIE Fighter at 6:30 PM, and the meet-up will run until around 7:30 PM. The event page for this portion of the event is: https://fb.me/e/63JCyyVMO
Q: Does this event cost anything?
A: No. This entire event, both game and meet-up, is free of charge to all participants. The only cost to any player would be regular admission to Hollywood Studios on the day the game takes place.
Q: Can you win the game?
A: It’s a collaborative story-telling event. Your whole group wins by working together (and trust us, it’s more fun that way)!
Q: Is the game youngling-friendly?
A: Yes. Only younglings older than ten will be counted, for logistics purposes, as a player. Younglings younger than ten are welcome, but for gameplay purposes will be following along with their parents or guardians. Content is family-friendly, although not targeted at small children. If it were a movie, the game would be rated “PG”, if only for some light story-related peril (like a space pirate!).
Keep in mind that this activity is a full hour and requires going across Batuu, so make sure your particular youngling is up to it when weighing to bring them.
Q: Is the game mobility friendly?
A: Yes, as much as it can be. While the game does involve traveling across Batuu, players stay together as a group the entire time and areas visited in the game are outdoors and easily accessible by landspeeder (mobility scooter).
Q: Do I need to be a Halcyon/Starcruiser fan to enjoy this?
A: No. Everything you need to know story-wise, you’ll have revealed to you as the story unfolds. Characters will be introduced, or introduce themselves. There may be extra references to the Halcyon you might enjoy if you’re familiar with Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser, but you don’t need to have any prior knowledge to have fun with this.
Q: Do we choose paths for the game, like on Starcruiser?
A: Nope! You’ll interact with different diverse ‘factions’ (such as Resistance, First Order, Droidsmith, Scoundrel, etc.) during your time on Batuu, both on the app and in person with live characters, but you’ll interact with them from the perspective of being in your own smuggler ‘crew’, recruited to help. Rather than it being a branching storyline with different ‘paths’, we’ve decided on more linear gameplay so we can focus on streamlining the experience and digging deep into the immersive elements.
Q: Will I know the characters I meet during the game?
A: If you’ve been on Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser, you might see some VERY familiar faces on the app, but in person, you’ll also meet some other characters as well.
The intention is not to narratively repeat the Starcruiser experience, but to build the story out into a new direction after the ship’s historic 275th voyage. This story is set a month after that voyage concluded.
Q: Is dressing up/bounding encouraged?
A: While certainly not mandatory, bounding is very much encouraged, as it helps immerse both you and your fellow players! Just make sure to abide by Disney’s in-park rules on attire (such as no cloaks that drag on the ground, less than 50% facepaint, etc.)
Q: Are you associated with Disney or Lucasfilm?
A: Nope! This is unofficial, entirely for fun, and in careful compliance with Disney’s in-park rules. We’re just game designers, writers, actors, and nerds :)
