Robin Leach, local historian and author has researched for over 40 years, the last 200 years or so of Kenilworth history. It is said of his book ‘The Abbey Fields’ that it “will remain the standard work for years to come”. Stretching over 68 acres (28 ha) Abbey Fields was once farmland belonging to St Mary's Abbey, that was dissolved following the Reformation. Its ruins lie above and below ground but St Nicholas Church, with origins from the twelfth century, remains in the park.
Robin’s talk will concentrate on the fascinating and complicated story of the fields and its years as the town’s park, including of course the history of the swimming pool and other amenities, its development, events, the two world wars, archaeology, etc., and he will touch on the future…!
