The city, as a collective space, harbors lives—its colors and insignias not only do so in spatial breadth but expand temporally as well. Its past has morphed and mutated into its present, giving way to a hazy uncertainty. The city encroaches like a hungry tide and simultaneously shrinks away, as people and other life forms inhabiting these urban spaces are in a play of dispossession and resurgence.
The Commons: An Exhibition of Shared Spaces reframes the kinetics of the cityscape through provocative documents, photographs, and installations, viewing Dhaka and its peripheries through reflections on German ideas of life, urbanity, history, and the erasure of it.
Designed and assembled by Aninda Rahman and presented by Littera Magazine in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, the exhibition features works from artists such as Labib Imam Chowdhury, Kamaluddin Kabir, Bushra Islam Labonno, Kamrul Hasan Mithon, Jannatun Naim, Ranajit Pal, Pradip Pal, Nafees Sabur, nocapdhaka, Prokriti Shyamolima, and Riyan Sobhan Talha.
