📜 THE HISTORY

The Columns Museum, nestled in the heart of Milford, PA, was built in 1904 as a private residence. Today, it serves as the home of the Pike County Historical Society, preserving over a century of history and hosting some of America’s most significant artifacts.
Among its prized possessions is the Lincoln Flag, the blood-stained banner used as a pillow for President Abraham Lincoln after he was fatally shot at Ford’s Theatre.
Alongside the Lincoln Flag, the museum houses a collection of artifacts ranging from Lenape Indian relics to items connected to Charles Saunders Peirce, a philosopher considered the “father of pragmatism.”
Beyond its historical treasures, the museum has an eerie past. The second-floor rooms, once occupied by women and children, have witnessed strange, unexplained events, and the building itself has become a magnet for paranormal investigations.

The Columns Museum is haunted by more than just memories. Among the most well-known spirits is Madame Juliette Peirce, wife of the philosopher Charles Saunders Peirce.
Visitors frequently report seeing her spirit pacing the second-floor hallways and standing at the top of the stairs. Madame Peirce was known to be deeply attached to her few remaining possessions, many of which are now housed in the museum.
It is said that she isn’t too pleased when visitors get too close, with some guests claiming they were forced to flee after a close encounter with her.
The museum is also home to a number of disembodied voices, often heard whispering through the halls or calling out from empty rooms. The basement, where a small woman has been seen lurking in the shadows, is one of the most active areas.
There are also reports of shadowy mists and figures appearing in rooms, as well as the sound of footsteps and clicking heels walking between exhibits.
One of the most chilling encounters involves a visitor who had visions of a woman falling down the attic stairs, while a man stood at the top in disbelief—a haunting scene that continues to repeat itself for those sensitive to the paranormal.
