As part of International Women's Day weekend, enjoy an afternoon out with your friends, a sweet treat, and music as Amuse Bouche Trio celebrate some of the finest repertoire for this unique arrangement of clarinet, voice and piano. Presented by Trail & District Arts Council in The Griff at The Bailey Theatre on Sunday, March 9 at 3:00 pm as part of our Classical series.
Clarinet player Nicola Everton, pianist Patricia Tao and soprano Noémi Kiss come together for a beautiful selection of pieces by 19th century composers, in Italian, English, German, French and Spanish, including Franz Schubert, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Antonio Salazar and Franz Liszt. The lyrics, (the poetry of the pieces) are focused on the universal themes of love and nature, searching for a sense of peace and belonging, and the themes of love and innocence, jealousy and betrayal, ethereal beauty and earthly passion.
During intermission delight at the sumptuous chocolate of Mountain Nugget in Rossland as they pair tastings to complement the music and talk about the process.
2 x 45-minute sets with intermission.
Clarinetist Nicola Everton has made the Kootenays home after a career spanning over twenty years as a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. As an avid chamber musician and concert presenter, Nicola has been involved with the Kootenay Gallery concert series, is a founding member of Selkirk Pro-Musica in Nelson and is the coordinator for the Kootenay Chapter of the Health Arts Society, a professional concert series for seniors in care.
Most recently, Nicola has performed as the Principal Clarinet in the Okanagan Symphony and as a member of the Klezmeridian Ensemble and the Trio Con Brio. She has served on the faculty of the Vancouver Academy of Music and has performed and taught at numerous summer festivals.
Pianist Patricia Tao recently moved to Kelowna from Edmonton. She performed throughout the U.S. and Europe for ten years with the award-winning Guild Trio. As a soloist, she toured the U.S. for Columbia Artists’ Community Concert series and overseas as an Artistic Ambassador for the USIA.
She also performed for many years with Trio Voce releasing three critically acclaimed recordings. Dr. Tao taught at Western Washington University, and was on the faculty at the University of Alberta from 2002 and is now Professor Emerita. She continues to serve as the Artistic Director of Edmonton’s Summer Solstice Music Festival and is now Artistic Director of Chamber Music Kelowna.
Noémi Kiss was born in Hungary where she studied voice and teacher training at the Liszt Academy of Music, and later at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, England. Her early career flourished in Europe where she performed early music and opera, taught voice masterclasses and made a number of recordings in Hungary, Czech Republic, Norway and England. Noémi moved to Canada in 2009 where she continues to perform with orchestras and a variety of ensembles. She works closely with various vocal ensembles, teaches singing, and is conductor of Cottonwood Singers. She has a special focus on the healing aspects of sound, and is a certified Biofield Tuning practitioner, and works with crystal singing bowls to hold sound baths, combining the healing frequencies of singing bowls with her voice.
Commenting on the change to daytime shows for the classical series, Artistic Director Nadine Tremblay explains, “Most of our shows are in the evening, but some of our patrons want the opportunity to indulge for an afternoon, enjoying classical tunes with the added experience of a sweet treat.”
Mountain Nugget Chocolate Co. will walk you through a comparison of their sumptuous chocolates, as you place the chocolate on your tongue and hold it in your mouth as it slowly melts. The tasting will help you recognize what makes fine chocolate so special, while talking a bit about how they are made and how to taste it properly.
So, treat your musical appetite in the intimate salon setting of The Griff as you indulge in a delightful afternoon of classical music and experience the wonders of chocolate.
