The Classic City Band of Athens, Georgia is the oldest continuously functioning community band in Georgia. Founded in 1976 for the purposes of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the American concert band, this non-profit organization gives free concerts throughout the year in Athens, Georgia and surrounding communities. On September 7, 2006, Athens Mayor Heidi Davison and the Athens Clarke-County Commission issued a proclamation declaring The Classic City Band “the official municipal band of Athens, Georgia.”The free concert features traditional seasonal music and holiday favorites, including the Overture to "The Messiah", an audience singalong, "O Holy Night", "A Charlie Brown Christmas", and "Sleigh Ride".
