18th-century Vienna was a thrilling place for musicians to call home. In one storied apartment building owned by the famous Esterházys in Vienna’s Michaelerplatz, some of history’s greatest artists lived — and made music — side by side.Composer Marianna Martines shared her home with Joseph Haydn, poet and librettist Metastasio, and composer Nicola Porpora, who gave Marianna singing lessons and employed Haydn as his assistant. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a frequent visitor, often joining Martines for intimate musicales and writing piano duets for them to perform together.
