The Chisel + Homefront London-based punks The Chisel enter the Portal for an evening of blood, sweat and beers.
If you are a fan of the punk scene that’s making waves in London at the mo’, you’ll be familiar with some of the alternative projects of members of The Chisel. Chubby and the Gang probably being the most notable. However, The Chisel themselves feel as if they are spearheading this community. It’s very much a scene that these guys are in control of.
Described by some as ‘oi revivalists’ of this time (and I don’t think I disagree with this), the five-piece are a bunch of blokes that you probably wouldn’t want to take home to meet your parents. BUT that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t want to have fun with them anyway.
The set is like a much-needed rush of speed complete with a Motorhead aggression, a Cockney Rejects attitude and the flirtatious skills of the old-man in your local pub. Everything is presented chaotically, with lyrics being spat directly into your face and absolutely no regard for anything other than letting out frustration. The set also feels like it’s crumbling apart in front of you due to the speed in which it’s played, but I mean that in the nicest way possible.
The Chisel are a band that you would happily let ruin your life; they make the rules just so you can break ‘em. Layered with chanting and a pissed-off attitude, they aren’t a group you’d fuck with.
It cannot be understated: HOME FRONT's songwriting is superb . They have a sound that is familiar and authentic without teetering into parody, only tasteful homage. Both Ian Curtis and Alan Vega receive heartfelt love letters via “End Transmission” and “Born Killer,” respectively.
