In this special anniversary performance, Yanlai Wu presents, "The Chinese Mermaid." This extraordinary performance brings together the most exquisite dances from her 20-year history teaching dance in Pittsburgh and recreates the classical Chinese ballet from 1959, "The Mermaid."
This show is not merely a performance; it's a journey through time that showcases Yanlai Wu's best creative dance pieces. From the waters of the Dai people, to the plains of Xinjiang, to mystical tales of Chinese folklore, we bring together our most magnificent dance performances.
The highlight of this performance is a presentation of the classical Chinese ballet, "The Chinese Mermaid" where ballet and Chinese dance blend together. In this ballet from 1959, inspired by "The Little Mermaid," a mermaid shows her human lover the world below where the sea comes to life.
