* TICKET ONLY - LIMITED AVAILABILITY *We are very excited to be hosting these unique, one of a kind experiences. A rare chance to come to the farm where Cheshire cheese has been made for nearly 100 years.
The Bourne family are opening the doors to the farmhouse, cheese dairy, fields & milking parlour to show you the life & times behind Bourne's Cheshire Cheese.
Hosted by a member of the family alongside our very small cheesemaking team, you will get the chance to peek behind the curtains & see the magic!
Please note that each tour might change day by day depending on the weather, what products were producing at the time & the routine of the cows.
Arrival time will usually be between 9am & 9.30am. Upon arrival there will be tea & coffee available in the old dining room of the family farmhouse. During the winter months the fire will be roaring & in the summer we will venture into the private gardens.
You will be allowed special access into our dairy, where the cheese will be being made. You will see our team members working hard & you can have a good nosey around. We will also take you down into the farmhouse cellar, where the cheese has been stored for nearly 100 years.
The rest of the day may change depending on numbers & timing, however there is still a lot to look forward to! We will take you on a lovely (weather dependent!) farm walk, across the Cheshire plains where the cows graze & around the grounds of the farm. You will see the herd where our milk comes from & most likely they will be heading to the milking parlour.
As well as a farm walk & meeting the lovely cows, we will also provide you with our version of a Ploughman's lunch. This will obviously be centered around our delicious Cheshire cheese. We will talk you through the different cheeses as you try them & will be open to any questions you might have.
All being well, the tour should come to an end between 3pm & 4pm. You will be more than welcome to then have a browse in our 'Littlest Farm Shop'.
If you are travelling from further away, we have teamed up with a beautiful local country pub, The Carden Arms. This cosy pub is owned by a lady who also runs a farm just a couple of miles away. Their focus is on producing very high welfare meat, supplied only to The Carden Arms. The animals are allowed to roam around the beautiful, natural fields in Carden & the owner, Didy, truly has a passion for keeping everything natural when it comes to her animals. If you wish to stay at the pub please let us know upon booking your cheese tour ticket & we will then contact you with a unique code that will get you a special discount when staying as part of our tour.
Things to note:
Unfortunately, not all parts of the tour is suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The cellar stairs are steep & old, the farm walk can be quite muddy & the ground rutted. Everyone is welcome but we are sorry we can't offer full access of the whole tour.
You will be required to fill out a questionnaire declaring any recent travel or illness. Anyone who has suffered from sickness within 48 hours of the tour will not be able to go into the cheese dairy.
Included in the day:
Tea & coffee on arrival, refreshments throughout the day & a ploughman's lunch. You will also get to pick your favourite cheese to take home with you.
Please bring clothing suitable for all weathers! A change of shoes would be advisable, wellies are a good idea for the walk!
If you have any questions please contact us, we will be happy to help.
