Famous for its deep, white, cool, chalky sub-strata, comprising ancient marine fossils deposited in the Cretaceous period, the Côte des Blancs is home to the Grand Crus of Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, Oiry and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Grand Marque Houses jostle to acquire grape contracts on this hallowed ground, and small RM grower- producers gratefully acknowledge their forebearers who had the wisdom to accumulate parcels of land in these favoured crus, now selling for more than 1.6 million euros per hectare.
