In the face of growing social tensions and intensified migration processes, the role of media in shaping public opinion has become increasingly significant. The discussion titled “The Challenges of Reliable Journalism: How to Write and Talk About Migrations?” offers a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience among representatives of journalistic, academic, and civil society communities.The aim of the meeting is to foster a deeper reflection on the standards of reliable journalism in the context of reporting on migration-related topics. Participants will have the opportunity to explore challenges such as:
- maintaining objectivity and accuracy in media coverage,
- countering disinformation and stereotype-driven narratives,
- ethically portraying the stories of migrants,
- building audience trust in times of information crisis.
The event will take the form of an expert panel discussion featuring distinguished specialists in the fields of media, migration, and social policy:
1) Olena Babakova – journalist and analyst specializing in Eastern European affairs and migration, academic lecturer. As a freelance journalist, she regularly collaborates with Krytyka Polityczna (Poland), European Pravda (Ukraine), New Eastern Europe (Poland), and Hromadske (Ukraine).
2) Adam Bulandra – expert in integration and migration policy, legal advisor, PhD in law, criminologist; Vice President of the INTERKULTURALNI PL Association.
3) Anna Mikulska – journalist and researcher focusing on human rights, particularly migration and refugee issues. She has published reports from Lampedusa, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Bahrain. Award-winning journalist and creator of the project Historie o człowieku (Stories About People): facebook.com/historieoczlowieku.
The event is intended for journalists, students, representatives of civil society organizations, and all those interested in migration and media. Its goal is not only to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, but also to collaboratively develop communication standards that contribute to building a more inclusive society.
This event is part of the project Migration Media(tor): Empowering Migrant Voices, funded by the European Union under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV).
