About the featured artists:
Amanda Witucki, the artist behind The Paper Committee, is a self-taught paper sculpture artist living in Austin, Texas. Dubbed as "new-school origami," Amanda brings a full spectrum of colored papers to a craft of historically simplified palettes. She appreciates the repetitive nature of the craft; some installations have over five thousand folded shapes within them. The practice itself serves its own purpose for Amanda; the hours spent folding the same shape over and over are a form of meditation. There's also a certain magic in taking one simple shape that has little meaning by itself, but magnified by the thousands can convey an unpredictable effect. Much like so much in this world from negative self talk to global warming, small things have a big impact once it's repeated countless times. Color is a prominent focus in Amanda's sculptures, and many of her palettes are translations of memories, moments, or even farcical discussions of consumerist pop culture. Oftentimes she has a visceral reaction to colors, and seeks to convey that feeling to the viewer. She likes to work with non-traditional palettes, often juxtaposing pastels or neon with deep earth tones to give tension and moments of pause in her pieces.
Bode Robinson is a mixed media artist from Austin, TX and the founder of the largely popular lettering community, Goodtype, founded in 2013. She’s the author of "Goodtype: The Art of Lettering" published by Rizzoli NYC and the Creative Director for her lifestyle brand, Low Sun. She loves to create in the form of painting, mixed media, digital art, film, curating and poetry. Her work is inspired by ancient wisdoms, nature, harmonious color and perhaps a little bit of hip hop and rock 'n roll, whether it be a fine art print or a mixed media flag, bag or jacket with found imagery and scribbled quotes or lyrics. “As an artist, I believe we creatives don't just build objects, paint pictures, invent fashion or write music. We are dedicated, through courage and heart, to honor and share our souls through our art, no matter what form or shape that may take. Your wave, is your wave and can be ridden by nobody else. You are the only YOU and that is your superpower.”
Sari Shryack is an oil and acrylic painter based out of Austin, Texas. Her colorful works cover many different subjects and techniques including landscape, still life, portraits, disco balls and even memes. Born in 1991, Sari attended Drury University and studied under painting professor Todd Lowery; she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 2014. Sari lives with her husband and two young children.
About the featured nonprofit:
Art From the Streets is an organization who's mission is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit and creativity for those experiencing homelessness are nurtured through their own artistic expression.
These artistic endeavors form a pathway to self-determination by means of the sense of achievement, social connections, and income generated through the pursuit of their art. Because focusing on housing alone does not achieve other equally important goals that are relevant and motivating to improving and sustaining a quality of life.
