About this Event
An immersive music and dance performance in St James Park for the E17 Art Trail.
The Cat and the Magpie is a playful dance choreographed to a modular synth soundtrack by local band Tooth.
Participants arrive at the park and are given a colourful token that will identify their movement group. The cats and magpies instruct each group on how to perform a gestural action that signifies the coming together after lockdown through movement rather than touch. Each group performs a movement that becomes part of the larger dance.
Magpies and Cats are both associated with luck or omens. A black cat is considered lucky, a lone magpie represents sorrow while two represent joy. Both animals carry superstition and sometimes dark associations, but they are both magnificent creatures. This piece will explore how they might interact and form an unlikely union.
