The history, bells and strengthening
The Carillon Tower was constructed in 1932 and is a prominent landmark in the Wellington skyline. Ninety-one years on, the Tower is undergoing its largest seismic strengthening project to date.
Join us at 2:30pm on Saturday 26 October at the Pukeahu Education Centre with Studio Pacific Architecture's Heritage Architect, Lianne Cox, as she explores this seismic strengthening project, and the Carillon’s design, history and the 75 bells that live inside the Tower. The talk illustrates the different elements that make this building so iconic.
Prior to the talk, the Pukeahu Education Centre will be open to the public from 11am — 2:30pm, and will showcase a variety of photographic, digital, and audio resources about the Carillon, as well as a display of reproductions of the Tower’s original blueprints provided by Wellington City Archives.
