The era of the California Gold Rush lasted from 1848 to 1855 and is remembered as being one of the most lucrative and intriguing moments in U.S. history. It brought about a sudden and rapid increase in the overall population of the state during the Compromise of 1850, which resulted in the state being admitted into the Union on September 9 of that year.During this program we will discuss the history behind this phenomenon in American history, along with its impact on cultural icons such as the San Francisco 49ers football team and the Johnston McCulley Zorro stories. Several references to this historical event are also found in operas, stage plays and many of the films from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
This program is free and intended for teens and adults. No registration is required.
This event is part of the America 250 initiative; celebrating our nation throughout the year.
