Keep The Colony Beautiful presents the buzz about bees
Join Keep The Colony Beautiful on 5/14 at 10:00a.m. in the City Hall Annex for an exciting presentation from the Collin County Hobby Bee Keepers Association as they teach us about honeybees. The presentation will include a question-and-answer session, a live beehive for viewing, and a cooking presentation. There will also be local honey avaible for purchase after the event.
The follow topics will be discussed:
• Beekeeping
• Parts of the hive and their proper names
• Three castes of bees – Queen, Drone, Worker – and their responsibilities in the hive
• Flora sources of the county
• Production and processing of honey
• Seasonal management of colonies
• Benefits of the honeybee to agriculture and natural resources through pollination of honey
• Normal range of county honey’s moisture content
• Granulation – what causes it and what to do about it
• Conversion of recipes from sugar to honey, and other cooking tips
• Varieties of honey and interesting uses
• Other marketable products of the hive, such as pollen, Royal jelly, beeswax, Propolis, and bee venom
