The Bus Experiment with Safeya Alblooshi

Reimagined Route(s) is a bus drive long piece that allows one to play with truth and fiction where what you are hearing and seeing is different to what you are listening to. Told from a third person’s narrative, Reimagined Route(s) will have participants go through an auditory experience of fictional narratives set in either the past, present, or future, of three varying locations along the driving route. In using sounds as metaphors, depicting the passage of time, and in creating alternate realities or re-imaginations of a place, what are the various narrative pluralities of a place that can exist?

About The Bus Experiment

We are reviving our Road Trips to partner institutions and cultural spaces across the UAE, but this time, we’re as much about the journey as we are about the destination. The Bus Experiment is a platform for artists, curators and cultural practitioners to present and share work that has never been seen before.

The idea is simple: a Saturday road trip from Alserkal Avenue to a cultural destination in the UAE, where the bus will become a site for presentation, performance, discovery, and ultimately, experimentation.

The Bus Experiment with Safeya Alblooshi

The second iteration will be led by Safeya Alblooshi who is a sound artist who experiments with found sound via participatory performance and installation to engage with topics of conceptual narrative, environmental listening and interactivity in performance. Her sound work and collaborations extend to being presented and performed at the Expo 2020 Dubai, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, NYUAD Arts Center, Alserkal Avenue (Dubai), IRCAM Forum (New York), Qasr Al Hosn (Abu Dhabi), and more recently at the Jameel Arts Center, and MiZa (Abu Dhabi). Safeya has also done sound for live performance and moving image, such as Re|sound V at the Sharjah Arts Foundation (2020) and has collaborated in various soundscape projects, one of which was recently presented at the UAE programming of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (2022).

Currently, Safeya is a Research Assistant under the Kawader Fellowship with the Music and Sound Cultures Research Group at NYU Abu Dhabi, where she also completed her BA in Music with a minor in Interactive Media in 2021.
