Join us for a rare track DMU charter, exploring the East Lancashire Railway using their immaculately restored class 122 bubble car which is ideal for negotiating hard to reach infrastructure. It is over 8 years since our last visit to this premier heritage railway and we expect to scratch track which has not been covered previously.Commencing at Bury at around 10:00, we will head to Heywood, proceeding to the NR limit at Hopwood Ground Frame and returning via the station run round loop before heading back to Bury and on to Ramsbottom for comprehensive coverage of the sidings to include both lines to the buffer stops and also the headshunt. Back to Bury where Carriage Sidings 1 & 2, and Belle Vue crossover will be traversed before a 45 minute break for lunch at about 12:30.
After lunch, we will depart from platform 1 and venture beyond Bury South and Belle Vue Terrace footbridge to explore the C&W area at Buckley Wells which has not been possible on our previous two visits. We then proceed to Baron Street Yard with full coverage of Road 4 to the Metrolink gates before accessing the south end of the yard and the approaches to the Steam Shed. Finally, the north end of Baron Street Yard will be covered before ending the day in Bury at around 17:30.
The buffet on platform 3 at Bury will be open from 08:30, offering drinks, sandwiches, cakes and snacks as well as hot pies, sausage rolls and pasties. Additionally, the excellent Trackside Bar on platform 2, which serves up to 10 real ales and ciders will open at noon.
This fixture is limited to a maximum of 60 participants.
All proceeds will be donated to the East Lancashire Railway.
