Take the ultimate time travel trip back 120+ years to Europe and the dawn of the film industry. The Brilliant Biograph: Earliest Moving Images of Europe 1897-1902.
And from the very first glimpse, you'll understand why we're so excited. These aren't scratchy, high contrast/low resolution from the late 1890s that you may be used to from YouTube, these are 68 mm films-yes, you read that correctly-68mm film from 1897-1902-and the detail is incredible. And these have NOT been motion smoothed or run at super high frame rates or computer colourized-this is the real deal-original film, lovingly preserved, restored and sensitively digitized at 8K to retain all the beauty and power that large format film holds.
The over 4 dozen films, will be presented with a specially composed and recorded score by Daan van den Hurk.
For the ultimate time travel trip, all you have to pack is your sense of wonder. Special Guest, Ryerson professor and early cinema expert Louis Pelletier will introduce the programme
