The Brackish+ Howie Reeve
Wednesday 4th March
Doors: 8.00pm
The Brackish are a 4-piece experimental band from Bristol, UK. First formed in 2012, the band have released five albums and will release their sixth in November 2025.
The Brackish sound is characterised by its use of dynamics, long-form composition and improvisation. Face melting heavyness gives way to gentle, spacious soundscapes within a single composition. Kraut-like grooves, polyrhythms, violent melodic statements and psychedelic, freeform improvisation are present in equal measure. Always expressed with a strong emphasis on melody and narrative, aiming to take the listener on journeys of much needed escapism.
+ Howie Reeve
‘Unplugged-punk genius’ Howie Reeve is a linchpin in Glasgow’s DIY community and a truly original songwriter, his songs underpinned by his dexterous and varied bass playing.
After having played in various Glasgow bands, Howie went solo in 2012 and has subsequently toured incessantly, not only in the UK but Europe and Japan too. Along the way he has released six LPs of songs that have been described as life affirming, fragile, funny and oozing with empathy. Cryptic, intimate and unsettling lyrics are sung over basslines that encompass elements of post-punk, avant-folk and free jazz. Howie’s melodic and thoughtful playing is enhanced by the occasional flamenco flourish and the odd unexpected percussive blast – all of which keeps the listener on her toes.
