The Sixties were without doubt the most dynamic and innovative of decades, and their impact upon society is still being felt throughout the world even now. The huge changes in music, fashion and culture which the Sixties brought about have left an indelible mark on the world, one which will probably never be equalled.
Many of the creators and innovators of the Sixties were, of course, British, so in recognition of such everlasting achievements, The Bootleg Sixties was created ! This fully self – contained two – hour plus show is packed with great music from all the classic artists of the decade, and is back-dropped by fantastic visual footage. Add in some fab 60’s costumes and, blistering performances by The Overtures, and you’ve got a knockout show!
The Overtures are recognised as perhaps the finest exponents of Sixties music in the world today, and among their many credits and successes they are proud to have been asked personally by Sir Elton John to be the main act at his civil ceremony wedding, as well as to support him at the 02 Arena in London. In fact, in an interview with GQ magazine after the event he went as far as to call them “ Probably the best band of their kind in the world”….high praise indeed from a master showman. They have, in fact performed at his house more than once, as they were also the main entertainment when Sir Elton hosted Elvis Costello’s wedding to American jazz chanteuse Diana Krall. They have also performed by invitation for Sir Paul McCartney and at Arundel Castle for Sir David Frost. They were asked to perform at a private birthday party for Lulu, which was notable for the birthday girl joining the band for her signature song “ Shout”, as well as Sir Elton being guest
vocalist on “Pinball Wizard”. Pop Idol, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance supremo “ Nasty Nigel” Lythgoe flew them to Las Vegas to be special guests at his star-studded 60th birthday party, and they’ve played several times for The Who’s Kenny Jones at his Hurtwood polo park in Surrey. They’ve played their own set, then backed Lionel Richie, at the Bullring in Malaga for a German TV spectacular of the game show Wetten Das ? and were then invited to be the house band guesting with a host of 60’s stars by German TV giant Thomas Gottschalk.
They’ve headlined the Twinwood vintage music festival in Bedford in front of 10,000 people ( and are doing so again this August Bank Holiday Friday) but perhaps most impressively of all, have played for Queen Elizabeth II at a Buckingham Palace Christmas party !! They have also become the darlings of the Cunard cruise line, and are often special guests aboard the fleet’s three ships, the Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and Queen Victoria. The full Bootleg Sixties show itself has also exploded into Holland and Belgium over the past three years, with Germany starting to get in on the act too…and that’s in addition to nine years of touring the shows around the theatres and concert halls of the UK. Come and see for yourself what all the fuss is about, and go on an unforgettable journey with the songs, stars and images of pop music’s greatest decade !
