Jeffrey Smalldon, Ph.D., is a retired forensic psychologist who spent over 25 years consulting on high-profile criminal cases, including more than 300 death penalty trials. A former assistant vice president at Riverside Methodist Hospital, he shifted careers after a double homicide in his department led him to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology at Ohio State. Over the decades, he corresponded with or evaluated some of America’s most notorious killers—including Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Donald Harvey—and frequently appeared as a media expert on criminal behavior. His memoir, That Beast Was Not Me, reflects on a lifetime spent examining the darkest corners of the human mind.
