THE BONGOS, founders of the Hoboken music scene of the 1980s, return to the stage with all original members — Richard Barone, James Mastro, Rob Norris, and Frank Giannini — to celebrate their new album release, ’The Shroud of Touring: Live in 1985,’ on JEM Records. Originally recorded on the Jersey Shore during the steamy Memorial Day weekend of 1985, the album has remained unreleased until now, the 40th anniversary of the performance, and captures the band’s legendary energy at the peak of its power. With their unique, highly percussive musical style, the Bongos were college radio favorites and made the leap to national recognition with the advent of MTV. Their breakthrough song “Numbers with Wings” garnered the group a major cult following and a nomination at the first MTV Video Music Awards. Along with a handful of others, the Bongos were instrumental in the advancement of the alternative rock movement. Copies of the new CD will be available.
