About this Event

The Bokomorebi International Film Festival is a poetic and purposeful celebration of the seventh art — cinema — as a force for connection, compassion, and positive world change.

Brought to you by Studio Bokehgo, our mission is to bring together pioneering filmmakers whose work is rooted in authenticity, ethics, and the belief that storytelling can make the world better. At Bokomorebi, connection and community are at the heart of everything we do.


The festival event welcomes you to a unique experience in film experience and connection - each festival session includes:

  • Official film showcase from local and international talent telling stories of beauty and impact to our world
  • Immerive film exhibitions
  • Talks and workshops from incredible artists including Testamant (Andy Brooks), Pishdaad Modaressi, Penny Moe, Eva McQuade, John Slemensek-Thorne - More info on the speakers below

The festival is hosted at CAPA College's state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of Wakefield, offering an incredible moment for physical connection and community for filmmakers and film lovers.

Testament - Andy Brooks

Testament is an acclaimed writer, rapper and Guinness world record breaking human beatboxer who is based in West Yorkshire.

Testament’s work ranges from spoken word poetry, playwrighting and composition, to essay writing, live beatbox show to radio presenting. Testament’s work has received praise from Lemn Sissay, graphic novelist Alan Moore, actor and writer Patterson Joseph, BBC presenter Lauren Laverne and the progenitor of Hip-Hop himself DJ Koolherc.

Testament’s work as a rapper includes the celebrated Hip-Hop album Homecut: No Freedom Without Sacrifice, as well as several spoken word performances for BBC TV and BBC Radio (1xtra, Radio 4 and 6Music). In 2019 he was Channel 4 Writer in Residence at Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester and Black writer-in-residence for the Yorkshire Dales District Park.

As a playwright Testament has written for theatres such as The Royal Court, Leeds Playhouse, The Globe and Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester among others.Testament’s work for screen includes writing for NETFLIX, Disney Plus, BBC and Channel 4.Over the years Testament has worked with a diverse range of people from Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Grammy winner Corinne Bailey Rae, Ray Parker Jnr, jazz legends Joe Lovano and Jean Toussaint, Mercury nominee Soweto Kinch and he won the BBC Urban Music Talent Award in 2007. In 2015 he wrote his first show the acclaimed play Blake Remixed – a personal response to the work of William Blake which had a successful run in Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 and since then he has straddled the world of music, literature and theatre.


Pishdaad Modaressi

Pishdaad is a filmmaker and creative producer with a deep love for cinema and visual storytelling. He's worked across the UK and internationally, collaborating with artists, organisations, and communities to bring meaningful stories to life.

His approach is rooted in curiosity, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to creating work that connects. Whether it's documentaries, branded content, or music videos, Pish's aim is to create work that has a legacy.

He's always looking for new ways to grow creatively and help others turn their ideas into impactful visuals.


Penny Moe

Penny Moe (she/her) is a multidisciplinary first generation artist with activism background. She is an intersectional feminist, queer woman with Burmese ethnic originally from Burma, now based in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Her works usually explore towards displacement, trauma, grief and (survival) guilt. She is interested in stillness, but moving as in natural, taking times and observing the senses, to experience in our daily living. She makes conversation in watercolour and ink, films, photography, and food from the culture from where she’s born and raised, and where she feels connected to.
