Speakeasy Live Entertainment Featuring The Bob Cutting Big Band
Get ready for a night of pure swing magic as The Bob Cutting Big Band takes the stage for Speakeasy Live. We invite you to join us for an unashamedly glamorous evening of live music, dancing, and timeless jazz swing energy.
Led by Oxford’s own Bob Cutting, this sensational orchestra brings the golden age of Big Band swing roaring back to life. With a line-up of talented musicians and a sound that fills the room with rhythm and joy, the band captures the excitement of the greats. Firstly think of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and the unforgettable Glenn Miller. The band also add their own fresh energy and a touch of Oxford Speakeasy flair. Consequently this is not one to miss, and a great way to close our program of live events.
Who is Speakeasy Live for?
Whether you love Jazz Swing, Lindy Hop, or Ballroom dancing, this is a night that will get your feet moving. The band’s infectious rhythms, lush brass harmonies, and sweet solos create the perfect soundtrack for dancers and music lovers alike. Expect classic swing favourites, toe-tapping jazz standards, and the kind of live sound that only a full big band can deliver.
Bob Cutting
Bob began his musical training as a young man in the sixties at the Royal Military School of Music. His early career provided the opportunity to work with Sir Malcolm Sargent, before he became a lead trumpet player with first the Eddie Curtis Orchestra, and then the Herb Miller Orchestra. Herb Miller is of course the brother of more famous Glenn Miller, and took over the mantle of The Miller sound after his brother’s death.
Bob toured, recorded and performed with the band throughout the seventies and has a direct link to the ‘Big Band Sound’ through this experience. His own orchestra is the longest established in the region and we are very lucky to have such an experienced ‘Jazz-Man’ join us on the Speakeasy stage.
This is a chance to recreate those dance hall days of the past in the company of one who was there at the time. Please do not miss out on this experience as it promises to be very special. It will also complete our program of live entertainment for the season.

Facilities at The Summertown Speakeasy Live
There is Free Parking at the venue. We also provide refreshments with tea, coffee and squash alongside our generous healthy nibbles table. This features fresh vegetables with dips, crackers, cheese and cakes. There are also gluten free options. Everything is included in the entry price which makes it a very cost effective night out.
We do not have a license for a cash bar at The Summertown Speakeasy Live. You are welcome to bring in any other refreshments you wish.
Our DJs will be on hand at the beginning of the evening and during the band’s breaks to provide non-stop Jazz Swing music throughout the night. Therefore there will be no point when music is not playing. You are encouraged to take advantage of our huge dance floor throughout the evening which is perfect for Ballroom and Swing dancers.
