About this Event
Explore thought-provoking artwork that shed light on the hardship and resilience of the Vietnamese Disaspora in Canada as part of Connect Fest Burnaby.
The Art Installation will showcase a co-created selection of artwork by the Vietnamese Mennonite Church and Youth that includes paintings, 3D models, poetry, and personal narratives, each piece telling a part of the broader story of the Vietnamese Boat People. The inclusion of art forms like paintings and poetry not only provides a medium for expression but also makes the narratives accessible and relatable to a wider audience. It will have four sections: first, Life in Vietnam; second, the Exodus and Escape from Vietnam; third, Life in Refugee Camps; finally, Life here in the Lower Mainland. The project will also serve as an educational platform, especially for younger generations and individuals outside the Vietnamese community. Through this experience, the community will gain insights into a significant yet often overlooked part of Canadian and global history.
Please join us at the Burnaby Village Carousel for a capivating display of various art forms and media, featuring a Yellow Apricot Blossom Wishing Tree (cây Hoa Mai ước nguyện) where you can hang your wishes on, lantern decorating to take home, poetry readings, Vietnamese food and refreshments.
