About this Event
The Blind Outdoors: Brazos Bend hiking and birding
Come join us for a morning of hiking and birding at Brazos Bend State Park! This event is specifically designed for the blind and visually impaired. We will listen, touch and feel the plant life, trails and a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. The layout of the park is such that we can adjust distance and time according to skill and comfort level, but expect about 2 hours strolling easily in the park, stopping to listen and feel the natural environment. Bring your family and friends to enjoy this wonderful experience, allages and abilities are welcome. There is a park entrance fee, up to $7 per person, but plans are underway to get some concessions. Arrive at the main entrance at 8am sharp and proceed to the Elm Lake parking lot. Bring some snacks for a small picnic afterward. This event is organized by Peter Foster, friend of the blind community and coach to blind triathletes, and assisted by Donna Diggons, local birding expert.
