The Black Reflection Series invites you to reflect on your identity, your family history, and your role in protecting community heritage. Through lectures, films, oral histories, and guided discussions, this four-day preservation campaign celebrates Black memory, cultural stewardship, and collective storytelling

Info: Among hundreds of African American families recruited from the South to the Pacific Northwest during the late 1800s, the Donaldson family established roots and built legacy through perseverance and labor. As a direct descendant, archivist Ryan Anthony Donaldson will share the remarkable story of his family’s migration and the ongoing efforts to preserve and amplify this important history for future generations.

Info: Stephanie Johnson-Toliver will speak on the importance of documenting and sharing authentic Black history through community collective archiving. Her presentation reflects the mission of the Black Heritage Society of Washington State and the ongoing responsibility of “History
Keepers” to preserve cultural memory both inside and outside traditional archives.
