The Black Nerds: HOW HIGH (2001) This coming April, The Black Nerds present a special 4/20 screening at Revue Cinema with the ultimate stoner comedy classic: "How High"!

Jamal and Silas smoke a special strain of marijuana that magically enhances their intelligence. With their newfound intellect, they manage to score high on their college entrance exams and gain admission to Harvard University.

Join us for a hilarious excursion into higher education starring the legendary hip hop duo Method Man and Redman. As they blaze through the halls of Harvard, prepare for a laugh-out-loud adventure filled with outrageous antics, unforgettable characters, and a whole lot of herbal inspiration.

But beneath the surface of the laughter lies a deeper narrative, one that speaks to the ways in which language can be used to deter certain communities from opportunities to shape our world. Despite making it to Harvard, our protagonists unapologetically exist in a space where their presence challenges the status quo. It's as if everyone around them is under the influence of their very existence.

How High is a comedy that serves as a vehicle for a thought-provoking exploration of power and privilege. In academia, as in society, the few wield influence like an illicit drug, perpetuating systemic barriers that keep marginalized voices at bay. Yet, amidst the humor, there are poignant undertones that illustrate the importance of challenging these structures.

While comedy and recreational use of marijuana often go hand in hand, there's a medicinal element to consider in stoner films. Laughter, they say, is the best medicine, and in our pursuit of entertainment, we find opportunities for healing and social change.

Join The Black Nerds on April 20th at The Revue Cinema at 6:30 PM as we come together for a special 4/20 screening of How High. (FADUMA GURE)
