The Black Beacon 50 km is an epic challenge involving a South to North crossing of the Bannau Brycheiniog. There is 2200m ascent over the route but all on fast runnable trails. Your adventure begins at 8 am on a Saturday in Pontneddfechen, located at the southern end of the Bannau Brycheiniog mountain range. The early stages lead you into "waterfall country," where you can enjoy exhilarating forest trail running and pass beneath the dramatic Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall, setting the tone for the challenges ahead with ascents up Fan Llia and Fan Fawr.
Continuing through the iconic Bannau Brycheiniog, the route challenges your endurance with climbs up Corn Du, Pen y Fan, and Crybyn. These efforts reward you with a magnificent ridgetop run, offering sweeping views of the Welsh heartlands.
A descent past Carn Pica then brings you to Talybont Reservoir, where you can take a well-earned rest at the checkpoint before the final climb of the day - the formidable Tor Y Foel! Once that has been conquered it is an easy run to the finish in Llangynidir.
