Historic Rosedale is pleased to announce a featured event for Black History Month, “The Black American Experience in the Carolinas.” This event, developed by Historic Rosedale’s African American Legacy Committee, will explore the history of Black Americans of the area. This free event will take place from 10-11:30am on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the large cellar of the 1815 historic house. The original cellar of the home exhibits the kitchen and laundry space of the former plantation home as well as serves as an exhibit space highlighting the work of Historic Rosedale’s African American Legacy Project. Guests are invited to learn from the speakers who include Brandon Zachary as host, Janet Dyer, a retired Mecklenburg Historical Association docent, BeeJay Caldwell, author and historian, Tom Spada, Vice President and former chairman of the Historic Rosedale Board of Directors, Barbara Jackson, Chairman of the African American Legacy Committee, and Adreonna Bennett, UNC Charlotte Community Engagement Librarian/Archivist.
