About this Event
Begun in 2006, The Birth has been an under-the-radar fixture of the Charlotte holiday theater season. Featuring an eclectic mix of song, dance, and performance, it's a show that defies easy explanation and provokes deep reflection. Born of the words of the late Frederick Buechner, The Birth seeks to share the Christmas nativity story in a way that celebrates both the exultance and the wistfulness of the season.
After two years 'dark', The Birth is relaunching with its 15th year of performance this December, 2022, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Nestled in the historic Elizabeth neighborhood, St Martin's offers an architectural energy in line with the play's richer thematic weight.
The show is approximately 50 minutes with no intermission.
It is all ages appropriate, but is very quiet during parts.
There will be a Christmas concert and cast Q&A time following the 12/17 performance.
