The Gulf of California is a place of incredible beauty and striking contrasts. It is where extreme biodiversity overlaps with rich cultural diversity, resulting in a place that is deeply important, both ecologically and to the people who have lived there for thousands of years.
In this Speaker Series talk by Kino Bay Center Director Lorayne Meltzer, learn about the Center's efforts to promote sustainable use and conservation of resources in the Midriff Island Region of the Gulf of California, as well as ongoing research and collaborations with local communities.

Lorayne Meltzer is Director of the Kino Bay Center, and coordinates the Center’s research, education and community outreach programs toward the realization of the mission and vision of Prescott College and the Kino Bay Center. The Center (also a Mexican NGO) hosts ~1500 visitors annually, including students, researchers, community members and local groups. As Director, Lorayne is active in collaborative conservation efforts in the Gulf of California. She is also an avid surfer, connecting to the natural world through waves.
