OCTOBER 11: THE BIG DITCH DAY! Come out and celebrate the bicentennial of the Erie Canal at this event at the Depot and along the canal path to Heritage Park. This event is partially funded by the Monroe County Festival Fund and includes:• Old Time Base Ball Game at 11:00 am in Heritage Park featuring teams from the Genesee Country Village & Museum
• Music with Jim Morgan at the Depot from 11-Noon
• Storytime and family activities at the Depot from Noon-1:00 with Bridget LaDuca from the Ogden Farmers’ Library
• The Biscuit Brothers Slightly Crooked, Big-Hearted Salute to the Erie Canal from 1:00-2:30 at the Depot
Throughout the day along the canal path:
• Ogden and Spencerport Historians will display a variety of artifacts from their collections which represent the history of Ogden & Spencerport through the years
• Rochester Arc & Flame will demonstrate the art of blacksmithing, a profession which was very important to the growth of the canal and communities alongside it
• Colby Farms will be on hand with their team of oxen, which were a critical component of early farming in the region
• Walk the canal path and view a series of posters which describe life in 19th century Spencerport, the growth of the Erie Canal, and the growth of Ogden and Spencerport
