Visiting the Beloved Dead Posture Trance lets us visit our dead and send our blessings. These might be flesh ancestors or spiritual ancestors, or other beloved dead, like animals or friends. We will use the Kouros posture to contact them. They want to be helpful and to be acknowledged. You might have a question or concern for them. You might ask them for help or guidance.
What is posture trance? A trance is an altered state of consciousness. We all have them naturally. Alcohol and drugs produce altered states of consciousness. Prayer and meditation create altered states of consciousness and so on. Posture trance is an altered state of consciousness caused by listening to a certain rapid beat of a rattle or drum while holding a certain posture without moving. Posture trance rebalances the nervous system and is physically good for you. People feel good afterwards. Each posture trance lasts only 15 minutes. Typically the trance gives people a visionary experience. The postures are from ancient art. Each one takes you somewhere else. Posture trance is good for your body and gives useful and interesting visionary experiences. Participants need not subscribe to any particular set of beliefs in order to experience what the trance session offers and are encouraged to interpret their experience in whatever way is most appropriate for themselves.

Dr. Susan Josephson (a retired philosophy professor) will be leading the trance session with the assistance of Dawn Thompson, Rebecca Dunaway, Ruby Redd, and Cassilyn Jane. For forty years, Susan has been leading Posture Trance sessions based on the work of her mother, the anthropologist and spiritual teacher Felicitas D. Goodman.
