The Believe Projects® preschool literacy labs will provide children ages 0-5 years with access to more than 1,000 books written by Black, Latinx, and Indigenous authors. The new literacy labs are sponsored by Gateway Children’s Charity, and will be a positive learning environment that encourages creative expression and supports children in building the vocabulary and listening skills needed to be ready for kindergarten.

“Gateway Children’s Charity is proud to support organizations working with children and families in some of the city’s most underserved neighborhoods,” said Gateway Children’s Charity Founder and President Mike Todorvich. “By boosting children’s access to robust early learning opportunities and supportive environments tailored to their needs, these organizations are accelerating their students’ trajectory toward success in Kindergarten and beyond.”

Cortaiga Collins, Founder and CEO of Good Shepherd Early Learning Center says, “We are elated to have the Believe Preschool 3 Literacy Lab come to Good Shepherd Early Learning Center. We are committed to ensuring children enter kindergarten prepared both academically and emotionally. Use of this space gets us one step closer to closing the achievement gap. We are proud to partner with St. Louis Black Authors of Children’s Literature to ensure children are competent readers by the end of third grade.”

The Believe Projects® is an initiative developed by Julius B. Anthony, President and Founder of St. Louis Black Authors of Children’s Literature, an organization dedicated to improving early literacy by creating opportunities for all children to become confident and competent readers by the end of third grade. The added generosity of community partners like YouthBridge Foundation, Foundation for Strengthening Families, Build-A-Bear Foundation, Metro Theater Company, Ready Readers, and the Whittaker Foundation help to make these magical literacy experiences for children happen.

We are ensuring all children become confident and competent readers by the end of third grade.
