About this Event

Welcome to The Beautiful World of Mizuhiki!

Date: Tue Feb 18 2025

Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM (Central Standard Time)

Location: Japan Ameria Society of Chicago (Located within Industrious), 500 W Madison St, Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60661

About: Kimusubi will delve into the world of mizuhiki by introducing the mizuhiki culture, including the history, motifs and the meaning. She will introduce her intricately crafted artwork and projects overseas, and give a quick demonstration of 2 motifs. Guests will have an opportunity to join Kimusubi in a hands-on workshop, learning to create some basic knots.

About the Artist: The founder, Kaori Funaki, is a "mizuhiki artist" who literally ties joy, creating everything from panel pieces to three-dimensional works with a free-spirited approach that is not bound by classics. It all started in 2010, when she first saw the beauty of Mizuhiki for her engagement ceremony at her own wedding. She was fascinated by it and started learning, and in 2015 she launched "Kimusubi". Kimusubi wanted to convey to people overseas the Mizuhiki culture that is important to the Japanese, which is not just beautiful but also "thinking about the recipient and putting those feelings into the knot when giving a gift".
