Class Description: Introduction to ZentangleJoin Townsend Artisan Guild member Mollie Nicholson for a relaxing, beginner-friendly exploration of Zentangle—a meditative art form that uses structured patterns to create beautiful, abstract designs. In this class, you’ll learn the basic techniques and principles behind Zentangle, discover how simple lines can transform into intricate “tangles,” and leave with your own finished piece of art. No experience or artistic background required—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to slow down and draw. Zentangle is not only creative but also calming—an ideal way to unwind, refocus, and connect with your inner artist.
Meet the Instructor: Mollie Nicholson
Mollie Nicholson is a retired educator with 33 years of experience teaching English to students in grades 3–12. A lifelong learner and artist, she has studied watercolor and oils at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and has been a juried artist at both the Arts and Antique Gallery in Knoxville and Mountain Sage Gallery in Townsend. Mollie was also a founding board member of Fine Arts Blount and helped shape Blount County’s Fourth Friday art walks. Her artistic journey led her to teaching classes in watercolor, fiber arts, and Zentangle.
Mollie discovered the meditative art of Zentangle more than two decades ago, but it wasn’t until a long, isolated recovery from surgery that she truly embraced the practice. During those quiet weeks, Zentangle became her creative lifeline—and now she shares that joy and healing with others. Most recently, she has partnered with the Heartlight Center in Denver to offer Zentangle classes for the grief community in Blount County.
