The Avebury House StoryDavid Hollander from the Richmond History Group, which is based at Avebury House, will present a talk about the house’s history, and how that relates to the wider history of the surrounding area of Richmond.
The house was built in the mid-1880s for William Flesher, who was a major figure in the story of Richmond. The house was the Flesher family home for 60 years, and four generations of the Flesher family lived there.
Later, the house became a youth hostel for thirty years, before becoming a community centre in the early 2000s.
The Richmond History Group has a rich collection of images of the house and gardens throughout its history, and these will feature in the talk.
The talk will be approx. 45 minutes, with time for questions and comments, and be followed by a cup of tea or coffee and refreshments.
The talk will be at Avebury House on Wednesday 29 October at 6 p.m.
