Be part of a great new event this summer - The Athelstan 1100 Pilgrim Way Walk from Malmesbury to Kingston 2025.Last year Malmesbury celebrated the 1100th anniversary of Athelstan becoming king. This year - on September 4th to be precise – his coronation is being celebrated where it happened in Kingston upon Thames.
To highlight the connection between Malmesbury and Kingston the Athelstan Pilgrim Way, the popular network of footpaths and cycleways across North Wiltshire, is being extended for a special event; a symbolic walk with a crown from Malmesbury to Kingston, arriving in Kingston on the anniversary of the coronation.
The walk will take place over 11 days - divided into three blocks of days - and starts at Malmesbury Abbey at 9:30am on Monday 18th August. It finishes in Kingston at 10:30am on Thursday 4th September where there will be a joint reception with a cycling group also arriving from Malmesbury at the same time.
You can choose to be on all the stages, some of the stages, one of the stages or part of a stage. Might you be interested in taking part?
