Explore the life, art, and impact of the famous American illustrator and painter, N.C. Wyeth. We’ll start with his childhood in rural Needham, in a family compound on the banks of the Charles. Then we will follow his path to Delaware, where he studied under the well-known painter and illustrator, Howard Pyle. We will discuss his highly acclaimed illustrations for Treasure Island, as well as his landscapes of the areas near his family’s summer home off the coast of Maine. The final class will include a visit to the Needham Public Library to view and discuss N.C.’s work, followed by a tour of the Wyeth Library on South Street, the original home of his grandparents.
