Discover the art of cyanotype printing with artist and printmaker Susie Turner, using the unique surroundings of David Parr House and its garden as your inspiration. In this workshop, you will:
Be introduced to the cyanotype process – an early photographic printing technique known for its distinctive blue hues.
Learn how to prepare and coat paper with light-sensitive cyanotype solution.
Use natural daylight and a UV exposure unit to expose your images.
Create beautiful botanical prints using pressed foliage, lace, found objects and drawings.
Experiment with overlaying photographs and hand-drawn images on acetate to produce striking negatives.
Be inspired by artefacts and imagery from the David Parr House collection.
The tutor will provide a wide selection of pressed plants, vintage objects, lace and greyscale photographs inspired by the house. You are warmly invited to bring your own pressed and dried materials, or drawings and black-and-white photographs printed onto acetate. Please note: Inverted (negative) versions of images work best, but this is not essential.
If you would like further guidance on how to prepare images for the workshop, you can email the tutor directly at: [email protected].
