Narrative techniques are important to all forms of writing, from novels to microliterature. Join well-known writers and scholars Cassandra Atherton and Paul Hetherington along with Kate Forsyth and Annette Higgs as they reflect on some of the key narrative strategies they have used in their own work, or which have impressed them in works they have read. The discussion is inspired by the theme of this year’s Joanne Burns Microlit Award, ‘ricochet’, because a great deal of effective storytelling involves lateral connections or surprising rebounds.Includes launch of Spineless Wonders’ microlit anthology Ricochet and presentation of prizes to the 2025 Joanne Burns Microlit Award winners. Short videos will also be screened featuring classic and contemporary artworks and the microlit created in response to them by Australian and international writers.
