About this Event

Summary: Virtual reality and telemedicine have gained wide attention to the way we exercise in a home based environment especially after COVID-19. The presentation will give an overview of the application of virtual reality during cycling in different levels of virtual environments and the second half will focus on preliminary results of a funded study by Parkinson’s UK H2201- Keep on Keep Up for Parkinson’s Disease (KOKU4PD).

Speaker Bio: Dr Gill Barry is an Associate Professor in Clinical Biomechanics at Northumbria University. Her research focuses on the application of novel technology in the application of exercise in particular balance and postural control in ageing and neurological conditions. Dr Barry also has a keen interest in running mechanics and the application of wearable technology to assess athletes. Dr Barry works as part of the Physiotherapy Innovation Laboratory at Northumbria and is a Guest Editor Frontiers of Neuroscience. Dr Barry has a consultant role for the scientific advisory group for KOKU health, which is a start-up company between the University of Manchester and Reason digital health.
