This year the Annual Paul Smales Lecture will be delivered by Professor Harrison, and will discuss some of the intriguing new questions that are being asked about the glacial history of Cornwall and the Southwest. The Smales lectures are given in memory of Paul Smales, who made a great contribution to many Cornish institutions and was a friend of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society for many years.
Professor Harrison is a climate scientist with over 30 years research experience in how earth surface systems respond to climate change. He has worked in many of the world’s high mountain regions from The South American Andes to the Himalaya and the European Alps and is one of relatively few earth scientists to routinely publish in both geological and climate science journals.
He is currently Professor of Climate and Environmental Change, Exeter University.
